Dear Colleagues:
Once again, I invite you to join me in serving Frontline Outreach at the Power of Friendship Luncheon to benefit urban children. The luncheon is set for Friday - October 2, 2009 at 3000 C.R. Smith Street. This marks the fifteenth year for the event and the all-important participation by elected officials.
Your support has been helping Frontline Outreach become one of America's greatest urban ministries. This is by helping them create a Great Team that is Providing Great Service and is Equipping Great People to Build Great Communities.
The faith-based organization provides urban kids with educational, leadership and character-development programs starting with preschool. In addition, with its 40-year history of service to urban youth, Frontline now excels in its mission of preparing tomorrow's leaders for success and service.
In the last year the Frontline team has been busy. In partnership with Barton Malow Construction, Mims Construction, City of Orlando and Lee Wesley and Associates a new Family Pavilion was constructed and the kitchen renovated. Now 130 children can have meals in a first class facility. Over the last three years close to $100,000 in college scholarships have been provided to Jones High seniors thanks to partners like USA Funds, State Farm and CNL. Additionally, great supporters like Mechanical Services, Florida Hospital, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and M&I Bank lead the way in providing job shadowing opportunities for 30 cadets in the 09 Leadership Academy.
Results of Frontline's service to nearly 500 children annually have earned them many awards, including Bank of America's 2005 Neighborhood Builder Award and selected for HUD's 2008 Internal Annual Progress Report "Lives Transformed" stories.
I hope you will join fellow legislators and this year's host, Les Snyder, President and CEO of Barton Malow, for 60 minutes of service that can make a lifetime of difference for urban children.
Please lend your name to this event as soon as possible and plan to arrive at 11:30 a.m. for the noon meal. You will serve a 30-minute shift and the event will end by 1:00pm.
